{"id":655,"date":"2009-05-17T10:25:25","date_gmt":"2009-05-17T09:25:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/digital-citizen.co.uk\/wordpress\/?p=655"},"modified":"2009-05-19T09:21:03","modified_gmt":"2009-05-19T08:21:03","slug":"adopting-digital-behaviours-in-real-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/digital-citizen.co.uk\/wordpress\/?p=655","title":{"rendered":"Adopting digital behaviours in real life . . ."},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>How do currents develop?\u00a0 How do we not lose stuff?<br \/>\nWhere does everything go?<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-657\" style=\"border: 5px solid grey; margin: 3px;\" title=\"img_0813\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/digital-citizen.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/img_0813.jpg?resize=258%2C197\" alt=\"img_0813\" width=\"258\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/digital-citizen.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/img_0813.jpg?w=896 896w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/digital-citizen.co.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/img_0813.jpg?resize=300%2C229 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 258px) 100vw, 258px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>Artist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lanfrancoaceti.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lanfranco Asceti<\/a> gave a charming presentation on how, when we are creating a record in the flow of information through digital behaviour, we create the potential for conflicts with &#8216;real life&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Lanfranco uses a transmedia artistic approach to investigate the intersections (or not) between the digital world and the real world.<\/p>\n<p>His presentation began with a video made as part of his artistic process in seeing how messages are transmitted.\u00a0 &#8220;How can we understand the flows of messages?&#8221;.\u00a0 He has thrown a message in a bottle\u00a0 to his friend <a href=\"http:\/\/www.henryjenkins.org\/aboutme.html\" target=\"_blank\">Henry Jenkins<\/a>, a Professor at MIT, into the sea in Istanbul.<\/p>\n<p>The question is?<\/p>\n<h2>Will Henry Jenkins hear about it?<\/h2>\n<p><object width=\"560\" height=\"340\" data=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/CuL-B8T6QlQ&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1&amp;rel=0\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/CuL-B8T6QlQ&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1&amp;rel=0\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p>The most compelling image for me is of the bottle being thrown into the harbour and then &#8216;bouncing&#8217; back out and into the thrower&#8217;s hand.\u00a0 Made me think of e-mail bouncing or of servers being repeatedly &#8216;pinged&#8217;.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span>We are throwing bottles in the sea with a message to Henry Jenkins as well as throwing a message in the sea of the information of social networks on Facebook to see if Henry Jenkins will stumble upon the event online first or will receive the message in a bottle.
